Write an amount in words for invoices and cheques

Start typing or click an example

All lines

Add in words after any amount and the calculator spells it out with the right currency words. Useful for invoices, cheques, receipts and contracts.

How it works

The amount can carry a sign or a name: $, usd, €, £, ₸, tenge, rub. Cents, pence and tiyn are written as two digits, as on a cheque: “and 05 cents”. Without a currency the number is simply spelled out.

You can spell out a calculation too: write the expression and finish the line with “in words”, for example 25 * 2.45 $ in words.

Spelling rules

Hundreds are written without “and” (“two hundred thirty-four”), tens are hyphenated (“twenty-one”), the first letter is capitalised, and singular forms are used for one dollar or one cent.

Examples: what you type and what you get

You typeYou get
One thousand two hundred thirty-four dollars and 56 cents
Seven thousand seven hundred seventy-seven pounds and 77 pence
Ninety-nine euros and 99 cents
One million five hundred thousand tenge and 00 tiyn
Two hundred fifty thousand
Sixty-one dollars and 25 cents

Common questions

How do I copy the text?

Click the answer on the right and the whole phrase is copied. The status line under the sheet shows the full text even when the column cuts it off.

Why “00 cents” and not “zero cents”?

That is how payment documents are written: the fractional part appears as digits. The first letter is capitalised, as on a cheque.
