Frequently asked questions

Short answers with examples you can type straight into the calculator.

Getting started

How do I use it?

Type one calculation per line. The answer appears on the right of the same line. Click any answer to copy it. Lines that start with # are headings, and lines without numbers are treated as notes.

Which number formats does it understand?

Numbers are read the way they appear in documents. Spaces or apostrophes can group thousands, and either a comma or a dot can be the decimal point. 1 234 567,89, 1,234,567.89 and 1.234.567,89 all mean the same number, so 945 546,239 + 100 035,845 gives 1 045 582,084.

Why does it show "1 045 582,084" and not "1045582.084"?

Answers follow the style of the numbers you typed. You can choose a fixed style, such as 1,234,567.89 or plain digits, in Settings. When you click an answer, it is copied without grouping, so it pastes into Excel or Google Sheets as a number.

Percentages and money

How do I add or subtract a percentage?

Write it as you would say it: 2 500 + 15% gives 2 875, 2 500 - 15% gives 2 125, and 20% of 1 200 gives 240. You can also name a percentage, for example discount: 15%, and then write 2 500 - discount.

How do I add or remove VAT?

Name the rate once, for example vat: 12%. Then 100 000 + vat adds it (112 000), and 112 000 without vat removes it (100 000). Rates differ by country and year, so always check the rate you use.

Can it work with currencies?

Yes. Amounts may carry a sign or a name such as ₸, тг, $, € or руб. To convert, add a rate line such as $ = 450 ₸, then write 100 $ in ₸ to get 45 000 ₸. The "Insert today's rates" button appears when a line needs a rate and fills in current rates on request.

Can it write an amount in words for an invoice?

Yes. Add "in words" at the end of the line: 1 234,56 ₸ in words. Switch the interface to Russian for прописью with correct Russian grammar for tenge, rubles, dollars and euros.

Does it calculate loan payments?

Yes. pmt(1 000 000; 18%; 12) gives the monthly payment for a loan of 1 000 000 at 18% a year over 12 months. There are also functions for interest, installments, deposits and splitting a bill; see Help in the calculator.

Units, dates and times

Can it convert units?

Yes: length, weight, area, volume, temperature, data size, time and speed. For example 5 km in miles, 100 °F in °C or 1.5 GB in MB.

How do I count days or working hours?

days until 31.12.2026 counts days from today, and today + 30 days gives a date. A shift written as 9:00 - 18:00 gives 9:00 hours, and a night shift such as 22:00 - 6:00 gives 8:00.

Totals and organising

How do I get a total?

Write total on a line to add up the answers above it, or subtotal to add up only the current section, which starts after a heading or a blank line. The bar under the sheet also shows the sum, count, average, minimum and maximum. Select several lines to see the figures for just those lines.

Can I reuse a result?

Give it a name: rent: 1 200, then use rent * 12 on any later line. ans is always the answer of the previous line.

Saving, sharing and privacy

Where are my calculations saved?

In your browser, on your device. They are saved automatically and are still there when you come back. You can keep several named sheets, and make a backup file from the Export menu. Nothing is sent to our servers.

How do I share a calculation?

Click Share. The link contains the whole sheet, so the person who opens it sees exactly what you see, in a new sheet that does not replace their own work.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After your first visit the calculator opens without internet. In Chrome or Edge you can install it as an app from the link in the footer. On iPhone, use Share, then "Add to Home Screen" in Safari.

Is it free?

Yes, completely. A single labeled ad helps cover hosting. If you block ads, everything keeps working.
